About templates

A template is a reusable document generator. Rather than drafting a document from scratch, you answer a set of questions and Tiro Pro assembles the finished document from your answers.

You answer questions instead of drafting

Every template carries its own questionnaire. The questions are the ones that matter for that document — names, dates, amounts, and choices between alternative provisions — and nothing else. You work through them, and the document takes shape as you go.

Some questions appear only when they are relevant to the answers you have already given, and some sections repeat as many times as you need. The template decides that, so you do not have to track which parts of the document your answers affect.

The preview is the document

While you fill in the form, a live preview sits beside it. The preview and the finished Word file are produced by the same machinery, so the preview cannot tell you one thing and the document another. What you read in the preview is what the generated document will say.

Your answers are kept as you go

Your answers save automatically while you work. Close a half-finished form, come back the next day, and every answer is restored where you left it.

Each set of answers is kept as a session, so you can have several pieces of work in progress against the same template at once — one per client, for instance. You can rename a session, add notes to it, or duplicate it. Your sessions are listed under their template in the Manage templates overlay, alongside the documents they have produced.

One form can produce several documents

A template can produce more than one document from a single questionnaire. A will template, for example, might produce the will itself and a covering letter to the client. You answer the questions once, and each document draws on the answers it needs. When you generate, you choose which of those documents to produce and where each one should go.
